2008-12-02 Ski Walking with Pete Edwards
The Washtenaw Ski Touring Club hosted an introduction to Nordic Walking and Nordic Walking Clinics on Tuesday evening, December 2nd at Ann Arbor’s Kerrytown Concert House.
Walking with the perfect length poles and with the correct technique can help to radically reduce the stress to the shins, knees, hips and back. Walking with poles also burns more calories than regular walking and the poles add a tremendous amount of added balance and stability.
Real Nordic Walking Poles and instruction were provided by Pete Edwards the owner/founder/coach of The American Nordic Walking System and http://WWW.SKIWALKING.COM. All poles were equipped with metal tips (for trails, the beach, snow and ice) and removable rubber tips (for indoor use, pavement and other hard surfaces.
The club members headed outside in the cold to give the poles a try as Pete ended the formal part of the clinic.
